Colombian School Bus Driver Accused of Holding Girl Captive for Over a Decade

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

A school bus driver in Colombia has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl he allegedly held captive for over twelve years, according to Medellín prosecutors. The suspect, identified as Carlos Humberto Grisales Higuita, faces multiple charges, including simple kidnapping, sexual abuse and acts with a minor under 14, and pornography with a minor under 18.

Prosecutors allege that Higuita abducted the girl in early 2012, taking her to a house in Medellín’s city center. Over the years, he reportedly moved her between locations in Medellín and Bello, withheld formal education, and changed her name. Authorities claim Higuita subjected the victim to psychological manipulation and sexual assault, convincing her that the abuse was normal.

The victim, who was initially reported missing 12 years ago, reportedly confronted Higuita about the abuse when she turned 16. In response, he allegedly confined her to a house, from which she escaped in February 2024. Following her escape, authorities apprehended Higuita. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
