President Biden's decision to establish his 2024 re-election campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, has drawn criticism from House Republicans investigating his family's business dealings. They argue that this choice raises transparency concerns, particularly regarding visitor logs for his Delaware residences.
The Oversight Committee Republicans point out that Biden has frequently visited Delaware during his presidency, costing taxpayers millions. They believe that basing his campaign in the same state could further shield him from scrutiny. Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Pat Fallon (R-TX) criticized the decision, with Donalds suggesting it will allow Biden to avoid public engagement while his administration and the media target political opponents. Fallon called on Biden to release visitor logs from his Delaware homes, emphasizing the importance of transparency.

Other Republicans also voiced their concerns. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) expressed skepticism about the White House's claim that visitor logs for Biden's Wilmington residence don't exist. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) called for the release of visitor logs from all of Biden's residences, citing the recent discovery of cocaine in the West Wing. She specifically referenced the date of July 2nd, when the substance was found.

The White House Counsel's Office has stated that maintaining visitor logs for personal residences is not standard practice. However, Republicans argue that given the ongoing investigations and the classified documents found at Biden's Wilmington home, transparency is crucial. They also pointed to the incomplete nature of the White House visitor logs released by the Biden administration, which notably omit Hunter Biden’s visits and those of other family members.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) countered the Republican criticisms, accusing them of hypocrisy for not demanding similar transparency from former President Trump. DNC National Press Secretary Ammar Moussa questioned the lack of Republican outcry when Trump halted the release of White House visitor logs and called for the release of logs from Trump's various properties. He dismissed the Republican inquiries as politically motivated stunts.
