Trump to Host Senate Republicans at Mar-a-Lago Dinner Ahead of Campaign Retreat

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

Ahead of a weekend campaign retreat, a majority of Senate Republicans will be dining with former President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida this Friday. Multiple sources confirmed the dinner to Fox News Digital.

Following the dinner, many of the senators will also be attending the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) retreat, also in Florida. The NRSC is gearing up for the 2026 midterm elections.

While a significant portion of the Republican Senate delegation will attend the Mar-a-Lago dinner, not all are expected. Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, for example, has other plans. He'll be having dinner with his daughter, who resides in the area. Cassidy's relationship with Trump has been strained since he was one of the few Republican senators who voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial.

Cassidy is up for re-election in 2026 and will be present at the NRSC retreat for the remainder of the weekend. While his seat is considered relatively safe, he may face primary challenges from within his own party. The office of Senator Susan Collins, a moderate Republican from Maine who faces a tough re-election battle in 2026, did not comment on her attendance at the Trump dinner.

The 2026 midterm elections will be crucial for Republicans, who will be defending seats in key states like North Carolina and Maine, currently held by Senators Thom Tillis and Susan Collins, respectively. Simultaneously, the party aims to flip Democrat-held seats in states like Georgia and Michigan, where Senator Jon Ossoff is seeking re-election and Senator Gary Peters has announced his retirement, respectively.
