An 86-year-old man, Hamoo Saeidi, lost his life during a series of shootings in Brooklyn and Queens, New York City, over the weekend. Saeidi was reportedly on his way to pray at a mosque when he was fatally shot. The suspect, 25-year-old Thomas Abreau, faces charges including murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Saeidi's son, Ahmed Alsaedi, expressed his family's devastation and called for a reevaluation of the city's approach to crime. He described his father's routine of jogging several miles each morning before going to the mosque. An immigrant from Yemen, Saeidi arrived in the U.S. in 1962 and later brought his family over. He owned grocery stores and worked in real estate before retiring. Friends and family remember him as a cheerful and generous man.
