Jahvon Quinerly Transfers from Alabama After Tumultuous Season

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Alabama point guard Jahvon Quinerly has announced his decision to transfer for his final year of eligibility, adding to the exodus of players from the troubled program. Quinerly shared his plans on social media Sunday evening, reversing his earlier decision to stay with the Crimson Tide while teammates Brandon Miller, Noah Clowney, and Charles Bediako entered the NBA draft.

"Taking risks and following my heart is a big part of my journey," Quinerly's social media post stated. "Sometimes, as time moves forward, we realize it's the right moment to embark on a new path, embrace the unknown, and trust our instincts. This decision, however, is filled with mixed emotions for me."

This departure marks another substantial blow to Alabama, particularly after freshmen Miller and Clowney were selected in the first round of the NBA draft. Bediako, meanwhile, was not drafted. Guard Jaden Bradley has already transferred to Arizona.

The Crimson Tide's season concluded with a loss to San Diego State in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, capping off a year marked by off-court issues. Reserve player Darius Miles and another individual were charged with capital murder in connection with the January 15 shooting death of 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris in Birmingham.

Although police testimony later indicated that Miller and Bradley were present at the scene of the incident, neither faced criminal charges.

Quinerly's three seasons at Alabama followed a transfer from Villanova and a required year off. The 6-foot-1 guard, weighing 175 pounds, averaged 8.7 points and a team-leading 3.6 assists per game last season, bouncing back from a knee injury and earning co-Southeastern Conference Sixth Man of the Year honors.

Despite the Crimson Tide securing the top seed in the NCAA Tournament, Quinerly saw a career-low average of 21 minutes of playing time per game.

Quinerly's accolades include being named the SEC Tournament MVP in 2021 and earning all-tournament recognition last season. He averaged 15 points across three NCAA Tournament games, notably scoring 22 points in a second-round victory against Maryland.
