Russian Warplane Crashes into Sea of Azov During Training

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

During a training exercise in southern Russia on Monday, a Russian Su-25 ground attack jet crashed into the Sea of Azov. The pilot successfully ejected and was rescued by emergency personnel, according to the Krasnodar regional administration. Videos circulating online appear to show the aircraft descending into the water near a beach on the Yeysk Spit.

The Su-25, a twin-engine aircraft, has been a mainstay of the Soviet and later Russian air forces since the 1980s and has seen heavy use in the conflict in Ukraine. This incident is the latest in a series of Russian air force crashes, which some analysts link to increased flight operations during the ongoing war.
