Special Counsel David Weiss is anticipated to submit his final report on the Hunter Biden investigation as early as next week. The report will cover the extensive probe into the president's son, which has spanned several years and culminated in a controversial pardon.
Hunter Biden faced charges related to three felony firearm offenses and federal tax violations for failing to pay over $1.4 million in taxes. These charges, stemming from Weiss's investigation, carried a potential sentence of up to 17 years. While a December sentencing date was set, President Joe Biden issued a full pardon for his son on all charges last month.

The investigation, initiated in November 2018, gained significant public attention in 2023 following testimony from IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler. They alleged political interference in the probe, originally led by U.S. Attorney David Weiss, a Trump appointee. Following their public testimony, Attorney General Merrick Garland elevated Weiss to special counsel status, empowering him to pursue charges against Hunter Biden in both Delaware and California.
Department of Justice regulations mandate that Weiss submit his final report to Attorney General Garland, who has committed to maximizing public transparency regarding its findings. Both the DOJ and Weiss's office have declined to comment on the impending report.

President Biden's pardon, issued last month, contradicted previous assurances that he would not intervene in the Justice Department's handling of the case. The pardon covers any potential offenses committed by Hunter Biden against the U.S. between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024. President Biden defended his decision, citing the need to protect his son from what he perceived as unfair and targeted prosecution, emphasizing his commitment to non-interference in the Justice Department's operations.
