Washington Wildfire Prompts Evacuations, Burns 250 Acres

A rapidly spreading wildfire near Shelton, Washington, forced evacuations of several neighborhoods on Tuesday. Named the McEwan Fire, the blaze ignited around 2 p.m. northeast of Shelton and quickly consumed approximately 250 acres of industrial timberland and private property, fueled by strong winds. As of Tuesday night, the fire remained uncontained.

An estimated 200 homes are under evacuation orders, with residents directed to shelters at Olympic Middle School, Shelton Family YMCA, and Ridge Motorsports Park. Level 3 (Leave Immediately) evacuations are in place for Rainbow Lake, Little Bear Lane, McEwan Drive, Hiawatha, and sections of John’s Prairie Road. Level 2 (Be Ready) evacuations are in effect for the Oak Park and Evergreen Drive neighborhoods.

A large-scale firefighting effort is underway, involving over 100 personnel, three helicopters, and four fixed-wing aircraft. While hot and dry conditions are anticipated for Wednesday, the immediate fire area is not expected to be under red flag warnings. Fire crews are currently assessing the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
