Thanksgiving dinner sparks many friendly food debates. From mashed potatoes versus sweet potato casserole to the ultimate pie choice, everyone has their favorites. A recent Instacart report sheds light on America's Thanksgiving food preferences and shopping habits.

Based on a September 2024 survey of over 2,000 Americans, Instacart found that turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing top the list of Thanksgiving favorites. However, some classic dishes aren't as universally loved. Cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, and roasted autumn vegetables ranked among the least favorite Thanksgiving foods.

Instacart also analyzed shopping trends during Thanksgiving week 2023. By comparing purchases made during that week to the rest of the year, they identified items with the biggest spikes in popularity. Not surprisingly, whole turkey saw a massive 5,096% increase. Cranberries (fresh and canned) and frozen whole turkey also experienced significant jumps in sales, demonstrating their importance in Thanksgiving preparations. Pumpkin pie rounded out the top five most popular Thanksgiving week grocery items.
