Senator Graham Probes Alleged Biden Bribery Scheme, Demands Answers from DOJ and Weiss

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Senator Lindsey Graham is demanding answers regarding a potential criminal bribery scheme involving President Biden and a foreign national. Graham sent letters to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, seeking information on alleged political interference in the Hunter Biden investigation. The investigation centers around an FBI FD-1023 form detailing conversations between a confidential source and a Burisma Holdings executive. The form alleges discussions of payments to both Joe and Hunter Biden in exchange for influence over U.S. policy. The Burisma executive reportedly stated that "Burisma had to 'pay the Bidens'" to halt an investigation by Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin. The executive allegedly mentioned $5 million payments to each Biden, routed through numerous bank accounts to obscure the transactions. The FD-1023 form reportedly references "the Big Guy," believed to be Joe Biden, and suggests the existence of 17 audio recordings of conversations between the Burisma executive and the Bidens. Senator Grassley, who has seen the unredacted form, claims it references these recordings as an "insurance policy." Graham's letter to Weiss asks for confirmation of a briefing on these allegations and details of any subsequent investigations. He also questions whether Weiss requested special counsel authority and if it was denied. In his letter to Garland, Graham addresses allegations from IRS whistleblowers about political influence in the Hunter Biden investigation. He questions Garland's awareness of Weiss's alleged requests for special counsel status and attempts to bring charges in Washington, D.C. and California. The Justice Department has denied these claims, stating Weiss had full authority in the investigation. Graham also seeks clarification from Weiss on whether he requested and was denied special counsel authority, and details regarding allegations of rejected attempts to bring charges in different locations. He demands information related to these claims, including corroborating emails. The Justice Department acknowledged receipt of Graham's letter but offered no further comment.
