Indiana Republican Representative Victoria Spartz has announced her intention to decline all House committee assignments and abstain from weekly GOP conference meetings. Instead, she plans to dedicate her time to supporting the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative focused on reducing federal spending.
Rep. Spartz expressed her dissatisfaction with current Republican leadership in Congress, stating her preference to work with DOGE to address the nation's fiscal challenges. This decision reflects her ongoing concerns regarding government spending and the national debt, issues she has frequently raised during her time in the 118th Congress. While a current member of the House Judiciary Committee, she intends to step back from these traditional legislative duties.
DOGE, commissioned by then President-elect Donald Trump, is an advisory group tasked with identifying opportunities for streamlining government operations and reducing expenditures. Co-chaired by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the initiative has garnered significant interest within the House Republican caucus.
Spartz's announcement coincides with the inaugural meeting of the Congressional DOGE Caucus. It remains to be seen whether she will participate in the caucus despite her decision to forgo other legislative commitments.
