Climate activist Greta Thunberg is facing legal repercussions in Sweden following her involvement in a protest last month. She has been formally charged with disobeying law enforcement during a demonstration in Malmö.
According to reports from the local newspaper Sydsvenskan, Thunberg and other activists were detained on June 19th after obstructing traffic at the oil terminal in Malmö's port. Swedish prosecutors released a statement indicating that a "young woman" refused to comply with police directives to leave the protest area, leading to the disobedience charge. While the statement didn't name Thunberg directly, Swedish Prosecution Authority spokeswoman Annika Collin confirmed her identity.

Sydsvenskan reports that Thunberg is expected to appear in court at the end of July. Prosecutor Charlotte Ottosen indicated that the typical penalty for disobedience is a fine. Thunberg's media representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment.
Thunberg gained international recognition for initiating a youth movement advocating for stronger climate action. Her activism began in 2018 with weekly protests outside the Swedish Parliament.
