Emails obtained by Fox News Digital reveal that Mark Gitenstein, the current U.S. ambassador to the European Union, provided advice to Hunter Biden in 2016 regarding a Romanian client entangled in a corruption trial. Gitenstein, a close confidant of President Biden, served as the U.S. ambassador to Romania during the Obama administration. The 2016 emails raise concerns about Gitenstein's involvement in advising Hunter on his representation of Romanian tycoon Gabriel Popoviciu and the potential use of government resources in this matter.
In a June 2016 email exchange, Gitenstein, then a partner at Mayer Brown LLP, shared an Associated Press article with Hunter and his business partner, Eric Schwerin, discussing a Romanian Constitutional Court ruling on decriminalizing abuse of office. Gitenstein advised that the ruling would not retroactively benefit their client. Subsequent emails involving then-Ambassador to Romania Hans Klemm and other officials underscore the sensitivity of the information.

Hunter Biden's association with Popoviciu began in the spring of 2016 when he was hired to provide counsel in the corruption case. Further emails from May 2016 indicate that Gitenstein suggested contacts who could potentially assist in Popoviciu's case, including former U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald. The extent of Fitzgerald's involvement, if any, remains unclear. However, it is evident that the Biden family holds Gitenstein's advice in high regard.

The communication chain also reveals efforts to arrange a meeting with Romania’s National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) on behalf of Popoviciu. Hunter and his associates, including lawyer Michael Gottlieb, discussed strategies for presenting their case and sought Klemm's assistance in facilitating the meeting. The involvement of former FBI Director Louis Freeh, reportedly hired by Popoviciu on Hunter's recommendation, was also mentioned.

House Oversight Committee Republicans have raised concerns about potential influence peddling by the Bidens, citing the timeline of events and financial transactions related to Popoviciu. They are particularly interested in payments made from Bladon Enterprises Limited, a company linked to Popoviciu, to Robinson Walker, LLC, an entity connected to Hunter Biden associate Rob Walker. Millions of dollars flowed through these accounts, with a significant portion going to Biden family members while Joe Biden was vice president. The committee is actively investigating these transactions and Hunter Biden's interactions with government officials regarding Popoviciu.
