President Biden's recent MSNBC interview, conducted by Lawrence O'Donnell, garnered significant attention but ultimately fell short of other programs in key demographics. Despite securing a primetime slot and being one of Biden's final television appearances, the interview's viewership was surpassed by reruns of popular comedy shows like "Seinfeld," "Family Guy," and "The Office" among adults aged 25-54.
O'Donnell's hour-long conversation with the president attracted 1.2 million total viewers, with only 97,000 falling within the coveted 25-54 age range. During the same 10 p.m. ET time slot, Fox News Channel held a dominant share of cable news viewers, securing 68% of the total audience and 71% of the 25-54 demographic. MSNBC, in contrast, captured 23% of total viewers and 15% of the 25-54 demographic.

While O'Donnell's interview marked an improvement over his show's performance the previous week, his ratings have seen a year-over-year decline across various age groups. Compared to 2023, "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" experienced a 5% drop in total viewers, a 6% decrease among the 25-54 demographic, and a 12% slide among viewers aged 18-49. The show's performance also declined significantly compared to December 2023 and the fourth quarter of 2023.

In the same time slot, Fox News Channel's "Gutfeld!" substantially outperformed O'Donnell's program in 2024, boasting a 69% advantage in total viewers, 152% higher ratings among the 25-54 demographic, and 173% higher ratings among the 18-49 demographic.
During the interview, O'Donnell commended Biden's accomplishments, highlighting the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the president's approach to integrating domestic and foreign policy.
