While Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann owns land in Chester, South Carolina, his brother, Craig Heuermann, is the one familiar to neighbors. Craig has resided in a dilapidated house on the same street for two decades, surrounded by "no trespassing" signs. Rex's recent land purchases in the area fueled speculation about retirement plans.
Following Rex's arrest, law enforcement officials seized a Chevy Avalanche linked to the Gilgo Beach murders from Craig's property. Neighbors describe Craig as an unusual character, characterizing him as a "doomsday prepper" with a yard full of junk. Though his property is cluttered, neighbors say the mess is contained within his property lines. They report hearing dogs barking frequently and occasionally loud music and banging noises.

Rex, an architect, mentioned in a YouTube video that he inherited his woodworking hobby from his father. Interestingly, photos of Craig's property reveal what looks like a woodworking area. While interactions with Craig are infrequent, neighbors describe them as generally pleasant, except for one incident where a neighbor overheard him shouting obscenities at someone.

Craig has one peculiar rule: no lawn mowing on Sundays. One neighbor learned this the hard way when Craig allegedly assaulted him for mowing across the street on a Sunday. Craig also distributes business cards with his name, the phrase "Bad Motherf---er," and his phone number.

Rex's undeveloped properties are situated near a series of lakes. Despite his eccentricities, one neighbor recounted Craig finding and returning their lost dog to a local veterinarian. Another neighbor reported a single encounter where Craig questioned him about missing items. While Craig's behavior is considered odd, he has not been implicated in the Gilgo Beach murders.
