Detroit police spent months meticulously searching a landfill for the remains of 17-year-old Zion Foster, whose body disappeared in January 2022. The search concluded in October with no recovery. Now, Zion's cousin, Jaylin Brazier, 24, faces charges of first-degree murder and evidence tampering.
Brazier previously served a short prison term for lying to investigators about the case. He claims Zion lost consciousness while they were smoking marijuana together, but denies responsibility for her death.

Prosecutors argue substantial evidence implicates Brazier. They allege Zion entered Brazier's house alive and was later removed deceased, placed in his car trunk, and disposed of in a dumpster. The dumpster's contents ultimately ended up at the Pine Tree Acres landfill, the focus of the extensive search.
Brazier's defense attorney contests the homicide claim, arguing for his release. However, the court denied this request, and Brazier remains in custody without bond.
