Entertainment icon and Big3 basketball league co-founder Ice Cube recently launched a fiery critique of the NBA, mainstream media, and what he calls "gatekeepers" in a video posted to his Twitter account. This public statement coincided with the Big3's 2023 season opening weekend and followed Ice Cube's expression of discontent regarding the league's media coverage on "The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz."

Ice Cube, whose real name is O’Shea Jackson Sr., directly addressed his audience, stating, "Some of you may not have realized that I’m not part of the club, and a lot of you listening right now, you’re not part of the club either." He continued, "And what I realized with the club is what makes them so mad is when you don’t want to be a part of their club. It pisses them off." He identified this "club" as the "gatekeepers" who control access and influence within the industry.

Ice Cube pointedly referenced his "Contract with Black America" initiative, suggesting that it has made him a target. He also accused the NBA of working against the Big3, stating, "I’ve made it plain, simple, and clear what they’ve been doing. The NBA’s been messing with us." He clarified that he's not seeking collaboration with the NBA, but rather for them to "stop working against us."

He extended his criticism to mainstream media, asserting their lack of support for the Big3. However, he expressed confidence in the league's ability to thrive independently, proclaiming, "We can do it ourselves. We still on the rise without these [individuals]. We don’t need them, you don’t need them."

Ice Cube announced his intention to embark on a "'F--- the gatekeepers' podcast tour" to further elaborate on his grievances. Last week, he expressed his belief that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is not a supporter of the Big3.

The Big3, a three-on-three basketball league, boasts a roster of former NBA players and prominent coaches. The league is known for its innovative format and features both men's and women's divisions.
