Dalton recently expressed his self-assessment to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, stating, "I see myself as a starter in this league. I don't believe there are 32 quarterbacks superior to me." He recognizes his current situation in Carolina but emphasizes his continued belief in his capabilities.

In the 2022 season, Dalton started 14 games for the New Orleans Saints, accumulating 2,871 passing yards and 18 touchdowns. However, the Saints struggled to a 7-10 record and missed the playoffs.

Since departing the Cincinnati Bengals after the 2019 season, where he spent nine years, Dalton has been searching for a stable team. His journey has included stints with the Saints, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Bears.

Reflecting on his recent experiences, Dalton admitted, "Looking back at the past few years, some situations haven't unfolded as I'd hoped. Last year, I felt I played well individually, but winning games is paramount, and we fell short of that. I have unwavering confidence in my abilities." He further added, "Reaching 13 years in the NFL is a significant achievement, and I'm enthusiastic about my current role in guiding the next generation of quarterbacks."
