South African weather services have issued warnings about persisting frigid temperatures following an unusual snowfall that blanketed several regions. While residents experienced the rare event, officials confirmed no further snow is anticipated in the coming days.
Johannesburg, which saw its first snowfall since 2012, along with areas in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, and the Free State provinces, witnessed the wintry weather starting Monday. Temperatures in Johannesburg plummeted to a chilly 34°F (1°C) on Tuesday.

Forecaster Puseletso Mofokeng confirmed the extremely cold conditions will persist throughout the week, though the snow accumulation, which varied across affected areas, is expected to melt. While some snow remains on the ground in parts of Mpumalanga, no additional snowfall is predicted.
