A terrifying incident unfolded at the Killeen Mall in Killeen, Texas, on Saturday evening, just days before Christmas. A man drove his pickup truck through the glass doors of a J.C. Penney, injuring at least five people before being fatally shot by law enforcement. The mall, located approximately 70 miles north of Austin, became the scene of chaos as the truck plowed "several hundred yards" into the store, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko. Shoppers scattered in panic as the driver "actively ran people over," Washko reported. The injured individuals ranged in age from 6 to 75 years old, with one person seeking medical attention independently. Authorities initially noticed the suspect driving erratically and attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver evaded police, exited the highway, and headed towards the Killeen Mall parking lot. He then crashed his vehicle through the J.C. Penney entrance. Officers from multiple agencies, including the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Killeen Police Department, responded to the scene and engaged in gunfire, ultimately killing the suspect. "There were officers from DPS, the Killeen Police Department, and three other agencies that engaged in gunfire to eliminate this threat to the community," Sgt. Washko stated.
