In a stunning turn of events during Saturday's playoff clash against the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans cornerback Kris Boyd lost his composure after the very first play. While Boyd successfully chased down Chiefs receiver Nikko Remgio, preventing a potential touchdown and forcing a fumble (which Kansas City recovered), the play's aftermath saw the cornerback unravel. He stormed to the sidelines, flung his helmet to the ground, and shoved special teams coach Frank Ross.
Following the game, Boyd explained his outburst, claiming he believed the Texans had recovered the fumble. "I saw nothing but white and they’re all pointing that way," he stated, mistakenly interpreting the officials' signals. "I was just too excited, did something that I shouldn’t have done. Learning from it. Keep my helmet on." He also acknowledged a penalty for removing his helmet.
Boyd confirmed he apologized to the team and specifically to Ross, saying Ross told him not to worry about it. "I was just trying to get my point across," Boyd explained. "Like I said, I'm not that type of person." Texans coach DeMeco Ryans, who admitted he didn't witness the shove, condemned Boyd's actions. "We can’t come out on the first play and throw our helmet," Ryans stated. "That’s not what we teach. That’s not what we’re about at all."
The Chiefs ultimately defeated the Texans 22-14.
