A sophisticated drug distribution network operating within Rutgers University has been brought down, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone announced the culmination of "Operation RU Pharm," a months-long investigation into a closed social media network allegedly used by Rutgers students to buy and sell illicit substances.
The operation reportedly involved a Rutgers alumnus who created the private platform. Students could allegedly gain access by verifying their university affiliation, then browse drug "menus" and connect directly with distributors to arrange purchases. The seized contraband included marijuana, LSD, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, prescription medications like Adderall and Xanax, a substantial amount of cash, and a firearm.
Former Rutgers student Anudeep Revuri, 23, faces the most serious charge: leading a drug trafficking network. Six other individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 23, were charged with distribution of controlled substances. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to contact the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force.
This case echoes a similar incident in 2020 involving fraternity members and students at the University of North Carolina and Duke University. In that instance, a drug ring was discovered funneling large quantities of marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs into three North Carolina college campuses, generating over $1.5 million in illicit profits. Rutgers University has not yet issued a statement regarding the recent arrests.
