With President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration just days away, federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies are implementing extensive security protocols in Washington, D.C. A robust security presence will be visible throughout the city, encompassing personnel from the Department of Homeland Security, D.C. Metropolitan Police, U.S. Capitol Police, FBI, Secret Service, and National Guard.
While presidential inaugurations are traditionally high-security events, this year's ceremony faces increased scrutiny following recent security breaches. These include incidents such as a veteran detonating a Tesla Cybertruck near a Trump hotel and an attempted arson near former President Carter's memorial.

These events follow two thwarted attempts on President-elect Trump's life during his re-election campaign. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has expressed confidence in law enforcement's preparedness, while also advising residents to anticipate road closures.
Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Matt McCool outlined some of the security measures, including temporary flight restrictions enforced by the FAA and maritime restrictions communicated by the U.S. Coast Guard. Physical security will be bolstered by extensive fencing and concrete barriers, exceeding the measures taken for previous National Special Security Events.

While the FBI's David Sundberg affirmed there are no current credible threats, he emphasized the importance of public vigilance. The National Guard has deployed 7,800 troops, and nearly 4,000 officers from other jurisdictions will support D.C. police.

Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance will be sworn in on the west front of the Capitol. Thousands of attendees are expected, and all will be subject to screening by the Secret Service and other law enforcement. Officials are anticipating around 250,000 ticketed guests. Attendees are advised to leave prohibited items, such as alcohol, large bags, and bicycles, at home.
