Former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is getting a second chance to impress his old team. He's scheduled for an interview on Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Ryan, who led the Jets from 2009 to 2014, is hoping to return to the sidelines after a stint in broadcasting.

During his previous tenure with the Jets, Ryan achieved a 46-50 record and guided the team to consecutive AFC Championship game appearances. Since being dismissed by the Jets in 2014 and subsequently by the Buffalo Bills in 2016, Ryan has worked as an analyst for ESPN. However, he has expressed a strong desire to return to coaching, particularly with the Jets.

Ryan has openly stated his interest in the Jets' head coaching vacancy, citing "unfinished business" with the franchise. He believes he can significantly contribute to the team's success, drawing on his previous experience and family connection to the organization (his father, Buddy Ryan, was a part of the Jets' Super Bowl III-winning team). He expressed these sentiments on Barstool Sports' "Pardon My Take" podcast in November.

The Jets, currently with a 4-12 record, have also interviewed other candidates, including Ron Rivera and Mike Vrabel. Their final game of the season is against the Miami Dolphins, who are vying for a playoff spot. The Jets have not reached the playoffs since Ryan's back-to-back AFC Championship appearances in 2009 and 2010.
