Following her first subcommittee hearing as chair under the House Oversight Committee, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced plans for future sessions. Her subcommittee, aligned with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, will next scrutinize the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as well as media organizations NPR and PBS.
These targets echo Musk's own focus since advising President Trump on DOGE matters. Rep. Greene emphasized her commitment to transparency, telling reporters, "We're working to fill the calendar with crucial issues, departments, and government programs that Americans deserve clear insight into. We'll then develop solutions." She indicated that a report detailing findings and proposed solutions from the initial hearing, which centered on government spending and the national debt, will be released shortly.

While Democrats may wish to question Musk directly, Greene suggested that is not currently planned. She expressed concern that such a hearing would devolve into attacks and harassment, distracting Musk from his efforts to identify waste and inefficiency within government agencies. Rep. Greene stated her intention to collaborate with other congressional leaders to implement the forthcoming report's recommendations.

During the first hearing, which lasted approximately two hours, Republican lawmakers pushed back against Democratic attempts to redirect attention to Musk. Rep. Eric Burlison criticized what he perceived as ad hominem attacks against Musk's wealth, while Rep. Michael Cloud downplayed the effectiveness of such a strategy with the public, emphasizing voters' desire for significant change in government operations.

This DOGE subcommittee, operating under the House Oversight Committee, marks Rep. Greene's first committee chair position.
