MSNBC has been facing significant viewership challenges, with three of its primetime programs recently hitting all-time lows. "Alex Wagner Tonight," "Inside with Jen Psaki," and "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" all experienced record low audiences despite a week filled with major news events, including the murder of a prominent CEO, political developments surrounding former President Trump, President Biden's decision regarding his son Hunter, and international political upheaval.
Filling in for Rachel Maddow on Tuesday through Friday evenings, "Alex Wagner Tonight" saw its lowest average viewership since its inception in 2022. Similarly, "Inside with Jen Psaki," hosted by the former White House Press Secretary, also experienced its smallest weekly audience since its launch. While "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell" saw a slight increase in overall viewership compared to the previous week, it reached a historic low within the key demographic of adults aged 25-54, a crucial metric for advertisers.

These ratings struggles coincide with Comcast's recent announcement to spin off NBCUniversal's cable assets, including MSNBC, into a separate entity. This move raises questions about the network's future, including its name, resources, and editorial direction. Adding to the network's challenges, "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski recently faced criticism after revealing a meeting with former President Trump, despite their past strong criticisms of him.
