During a recent press conference, Megan's parents, Lynette and Tim Drumhiller, voiced their concerns about the Carrollton Township Police Department and Michigan State Police's handling of the case. They allege that crucial DNA evidence was not tested, potential witnesses were not interviewed promptly, camera footage was not thoroughly examined, and the lead detective worked remotely for an extended period due to COVID-19. Lynette questioned the effectiveness of investigating a homicide from home, while Tim described the initial investigation as riddled with errors and missteps. They feel the process has been deliberately drawn out.

Lynette emphasized the ongoing danger posed by the killer still being at large and directly addressed the perpetrator, expressing hope that their guilt weighs heavily on their conscience. She recalled the devastating moment of arriving at her daughter's home, met with an ambulance and crime scene tape, and a seasoned detective's near-certain assessment of homicide. Given the absence of forced entry, the family believes Megan knew and trusted her killer.

Tim highlighted nationwide police staffing shortages and the alarming FBI statistic of over half of U.S. murders remaining unsolved as contributing factors to the lack of progress in his daughter's case. He expressed concern about similar injustices happening to other families.
