Former professional basketball player Óscar Cabrera Adames, 28, passed away this week following a suspected heart attack, potentially occurring during a stress test in Santo Domingo. This information comes from a social media post by Dominican sports commentator Héctor Gómez.

Cabrera Adames was believed to have myocarditis, a condition that weakens the heart and its electrical system, impacting its ability to pump blood effectively, as per the American Heart Association.

Following his passing, social media posts attributed to Cabrera Adames emerged, suggesting a possible link between his heart condition and receiving two doses of a COVID vaccine. He reportedly stated he was required to get the vaccine for work as an international professional athlete playing in Spain. He also mentioned collapsing on the court during a game and undergoing numerous cardiology tests that yielded no conclusive findings.

Cabrera Adames's collapse occurred during a 2021 Spanish Amateur Basketball League game, after which he was hospitalized. Stress tests, according to the Mayo Clinic, evaluate heart function during physical activity by recording electrical activity through electrodes attached to the chest. It remains uncertain whether the stress test directly contributed to Cabrera Adames's heart attack.
