Musician Paul Simon's latest album, "Seven Psalms," has a unique origin story: it was born from a series of vivid dreams. In a recent interview with CBS News, Simon recounted waking up in his Texas cabin, the title 'Seven Psalms' echoing in his mind from a dream. He patiently waited for further inspiration, which eventually arrived in the form of musical pieces, followed by lyrics, also delivered through dreams. This intriguing creative process will be explored in the upcoming documentary, "In Restless Dreams."

The documentary chronicles Simon's nocturnal writing sessions, where he would awaken between 3:30 and 5:00 am, words flowing from his dream state. While some interpret "Seven Psalms" as a reflection on mortality, given the inclusion of a song titled "Wait" and Simon's age of 81, the artist insists it's not a primary focus. He acknowledges contemplating mortality but emphasizes it's not a pressing concern.

Simon expresses gratitude for this dream-inspired creativity, comparing it to the genesis of earlier hits like "The Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." He doesn't seek to analyze the source of these visions, content to embrace the inspiration. However, Simon's creative journey has encountered recent challenges. He revealed a significant hearing loss in his left ear, impacting his ability to perform with a full band. Despite this setback, his passion for music remains undimmed. He continues to write, finding solace and purpose in the act of creation, even if it's solely for personal enjoyment.

In 2018, Simon announced his retirement from touring, citing the strain of travel on his family life. His final performance was at the Newport Folk Festival in July 2022. While hopeful it won't be his last live show, he recognizes the possibility, especially given his hearing challenges. Despite these hurdles, Simon's dedication to music persists, fueled by the dreams that continue to inspire his creative spirit.
