Created: JANUARY 26, 2025

A devastating incident unfolded on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during New Year's Eve celebrations when a pickup truck driver drove into a crowd, resulting in at least ten fatalities and numerous injuries. Among the victims was Tiger Bech, a former Princeton University football player and New Orleans native.

Bech, who played for Princeton from 2016 to 2018, excelled as an All-Ivy League kick returner and wide receiver. During his college career, he amassed impressive statistics, including 53 receptions for 825 yards and three touchdowns. After graduating in 2021, Bech pursued a career in finance, working as a stockbroker in New York City. He had returned to his hometown of New Orleans for the holiday season.

Tragically, Bech's younger brother, Jack Bech, a wide receiver for Texas Christian University (TCU), shared the heartbreaking news of his brother's passing on social media, expressing his love and admiration for his older sibling.

The suspect, identified by the FBI as Shamsud Din Jabbar, drove into the crowd during the New Year's festivities. Authorities found an ISIS flag, weapons, and a potential improvised explosive device (IED) inside the suspect's vehicle. Additional potential IEDs were discovered in the French Quarter. The FBI is investigating Jabbar's potential links to terrorist organizations.

The 2025 Sugar Bowl, scheduled to be held at the New Orleans Superdome, was postponed in the wake of the attack.
