North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss the use of deadly force by a Fargo police officer against a gunman who opened fire on fellow officers last Friday. The incident resulted in the death of one officer and injuries to two others.
Officer Zach Robinson fatally shot 37-year-old Mohamad Barakat after Barakat allegedly fired upon officers responding to a traffic accident. Officer Jake Wallin, 23, was killed in the exchange, while Officers Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes sustained critical injuries. A civilian woman was also wounded, but the circumstances surrounding her injuries remain unclear.
The motive behind Barakat's attack is currently under investigation by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the FBI. Wednesday's press conference will focus solely on the officer's use of force, with a separate briefing scheduled for Friday to address the broader investigation.

Officer Wallin, a Minnesota Army National Guard veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, had recently been sworn in and was still in training at the time of the incident. Officer Hawes was also a recent recruit. Officer Robinson has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into his use of force.
Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney stated that Barakat was not well-known in the community. Flags in Minnesota and North Dakota have been lowered to half-staff in honor of Officer Wallin.
