Following the arrest of Luigi Mangione in connection with the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Mangione's family has released a statement expressing their shock and devastation. Maryland State Delegate Nino Mangione, a cousin of the suspect, conveyed the family's inability to comment on the news reports and allegations, stating they "only know what [they] have read in the media." The family offered prayers for Thompson's family and requested prayers for everyone involved.

Mangione, 26, faces charges including criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm), possession of a forged instrument, and criminal possession of a weapon (firearm silencer). Thompson, 50, was fatally shot outside a New York City Hilton hotel prior to a shareholder conference. The five-day nationwide search for the suspect concluded in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where Mangione was apprehended inside a McDonald's after being recognized by a customer and employee.

At the time of his arrest, Mangione was reportedly wearing a medical mask and beanie while using a laptop. He allegedly presented a fake ID and gave a false name, subsequently exhibiting signs of nervousness when questioned about recent travel to New York. Police officials reported finding Mangione in possession of writings expressing negativity towards corporate America, along with a ghost gun resembling the suspected murder weapon. One of the writings reportedly included a statement claiming sole responsibility for the act.
