Created: JANUARY 24, 2025

Following the significant backlash from a Bud Light campaign featuring transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney, the influencer is now exploring speaking opportunities at universities. Mulvaney announced the venture via an Instagram Story on Wednesday, providing a link for followers to request speaking engagements at colleges for the upcoming 2023/24 academic year.

Mulvaney's representative, Creative Arts Agency (CAA), describes the influencer on their website as a "Trans Actress and Content Creator" specializing in topics such as LGBTQIA+ advocacy, social media, women's empowerment, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

CAA's biography of Mulvaney details her background as a trans actress and content creator based in Los Angeles. Before gaining prominence on TikTok, Mulvaney toured with Broadway's Book of Mormon. The pandemic prompted her shift to TikTok, where her series “Days of Girlhood,” documenting her transgender journey, garnered over 750 million views in under 100 days. She has been recognized by TikTok as a ‘trailblazer’ and featured on Good Morning America's ‘Who is Making LGBTQ+ History Right Now?’ list. Mulvaney holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

The controversy surrounding Mulvaney began with videos featuring a promotional Bud Light can bearing her image. The ensuing protests significantly impacted Bud Light sales, dropping the brand from the top-selling beer in America to No. 14, with sales down nearly 30% compared to June 2022.

In a recent TikTok video, Mulvaney revealed a trip to Peru, seeking safety and solace following the intense backlash. She described experiencing shaman ceremonies as deeply therapeutic and expressed sadness at feeling unsafe in her own country.

Mulvaney has also criticized Bud Light for not supporting her more actively during the controversy, stating that hiring a transgender person and then not standing by them publicly is worse than not hiring one at all.
