ESPN Reporter's On-Court Gaffe Leaves Thunder Rookies Amused

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

During a post-game interview at the NBA Summer League in Salt Lake City, ESPN reporter Holly Rowe inadvertently sparked a humorous moment with Oklahoma City Thunder rookies Jalen Williams and Jaylin Williams. Following the Thunder's 95-85 victory over the Utah Jazz, Rowe singled out Jalen Williams for praise, referring to him as "the Jalen Williams" of the night. While directing a quick "no offense" to Jaylin Williams, the shared name and the seemingly unintentional slight elicited laughter from the players, including teammate Tre Mann, whose expressive reaction captured the lighthearted nature of the incident.

Even Chet Holmgren, who had his arm around Jaylin Williams at the time, joined in the amusement, sharing a whispered comment with his teammate. Jalen Williams led the Thunder in scoring with 21 points, followed by Tre Mann with 20 points and seven rebounds. Holmgren, returning from a foot injury that sidelined him for the entire 2022-2023 NBA season, made a strong comeback with 15 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.
