Dalvin Cook Hints at Miami Dolphins as Potential Landing Spot

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Free agent running back Dalvin Cook, recently released by the Minnesota Vikings, appears to be dropping hints about his preferred next team. Cook, a four-time Pro Bowler, became a cap casualty despite being owed $11 million. The Vikings will save $9 million with his departure, turning to Alexander Mattison as their primary running back.

While the value of running backs has diminished in recent years, Cook's consistent performance over the past four seasons, averaging 1,256 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns, makes him a desirable acquisition for several teams. He's now focusing on contract negotiations, and the Miami Dolphins seem to be high on his list.

The Dolphins' current running back situation features an aging Raheem Mostert and a career committee back in Jeff Wilson Jr. Cook sees an opportunity in Miami, praising the team's offensive weapons, particularly wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and expressing confidence in their offensive scheme.

In an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Cook stated, "It's an exciting situation...You got guys that can stretch the field...I think that defense is pretty solid...Tua [Tagovailoa] when he's out on the field, they got a winning record." He went on to highlight the Dolphins' outside zone running scheme as a "perfect fit" for his skillset, adding, "the roster speaks for itself."

The former Florida State standout believes he could significantly bolster Miami's running game, which hasn't seen a Pro Bowl running back since Jay Ajayi in 2016. Last season, Cook amassed 1,173 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 264 carries, adding 39 receptions for 295 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
