North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has made a significant financial commitment to his 2024 Republican presidential bid, investing $10.2 million of his own funds into his campaign. This brings his total fundraising to $11.7 million in just 23 days, from his announcement on June 7th through the end of the second quarter. A supporting super PAC, Best of America, has also raised over $11 million in the same period.
This substantial investment underscores Burgum's commitment to gaining traction in the crowded Republican field. In a recent interview, he emphasized his willingness to "put skin in the game," reflecting his business background. He stressed the importance of a "fully funded campaign" while also acknowledging the need for grassroots support. The campaign highlighted that the remaining $1.5 million raised came from individual donors, with 200 contributions from each of more than 20 states, fulfilling a key requirement for the upcoming Republican National Committee debate.
Burgum's campaign spokesperson expressed confidence that these resources will amplify the governor's message on key issues like the economy, energy, and national security, aiming to reach voters in early primary states and across the nation. They also noted a growing momentum in both small-dollar donations and interest from larger contributors. This financial boost comes as other candidates, including frontrunner Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, have also reported substantial fundraising hauls. Trump's campaign and associated PAC raised a combined $35 million in the second quarter, while DeSantis' campaign brought in $20 million, with an additional $130 million raised by a supporting super PAC. Other candidates, such as Nikki Haley and Senator Tim Scott, have also reported multi-million dollar fundraising totals. These financial resources are crucial for campaign activities like travel, advertising, and voter outreach.
