A tragic incident unfolded in Washington, D.C., where a Lyft driver working a late-night shift was fatally shot. Nasrat Ahmad Yar, a 31-year-old resident of Alexandria, Virginia, was found unresponsive in his vehicle shortly after midnight on Monday. Police responded to reports of an unconscious person on the 400 block of 11th Street, Northeast, and discovered that Mr. Yar had been shot. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Mr. Yar, a former interpreter for U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan, had escaped the country with his wife and four children in 2021 following the Taliban's takeover. His wife shared with local news station WUSA that Mr. Yar had continued working that night despite her urging him to return home, as they faced an upcoming rent payment. Tragically, he was killed just moments later.

A Nest camera captured footage of four individuals fleeing the scene. The Metropolitan Police Department has released the video and is seeking the public's assistance in identifying these individuals. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Mr. Yar's death.
Lyft expressed their condolences, stating, "Our hearts are with Mr. Nasrat’s loved ones as they confront this unspeakable tragedy. We have reached out to his family to offer our support and are in contact with law enforcement to assist with their investigation."
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or submit an anonymous tip by texting 50411.
