Boebert Demands Drug Tests for Biden and White House Staff After Cocaine Discovery

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

Following the discovery of cocaine in the White House over the Independence Day weekend, Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has called for mandatory drug testing for President Biden and all White House personnel. Boebert expressed her concerns on Twitter, questioning the administration's apparent reluctance to confirm whether the individual responsible would face arrest. She suggested that everyone, including the President, should be tested until the source of the illicit substance is identified.

The Secret Service verified that the substance found in a bag in the West Wing on Sunday evening was indeed cocaine. Initially reported as being found in a common area, the location has been clarified as a more secure zone near an entrance utilized by staff from various government agencies, close to the Situation Room. The discovery triggered a hazmat response and temporary street closures around the White House.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed the ongoing investigation but faced numerous questions regarding the perpetrator. Anonymous sources close to the administration, speaking to The Hill, dismissed the incident as political maneuvering by the opposition, particularly in light of former President Trump's allegations connecting the cocaine to President Biden and his son, Hunter. These sources characterized the situation as predictable political posturing.

While the President and his family were at Camp David during the weekend, White House officials refrained from directly addressing Trump's accusations, with Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates citing the Hatch Act as a reason to avoid comment. The Hatch Act restricts federal employees from engaging in political activities while on duty.

As of Thursday, the Secret Service had not identified any suspects, and a source familiar with the investigation indicated to Fox News Digital that determining the individual responsible might prove challenging. The source confirmed that comprehensive tests, including DNA and fingerprint analysis, are being conducted on the container. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) has formally requested further details from the Secret Service, emphasizing the need for Congress to be fully informed about any security breaches and the agency's plans to address them.
