In a bizarre turn of events during a scoreless soccer match between Argentino de Merlo and Sacachispas, player Leonel Ovejero was sent off after allegedly urinating on the field. The incident occurred on Tuesday at Juan Carlos Brieva Stadium in Buenos Aires with about 11 minutes left in the game. Play was stopped, and Ovejero appeared to lower his pants and urinate while a player from the opposing team was being attended to for an injury. The referee promptly issued a red card, ejecting Ovejero, who seemed stunned by the decision. An on-field reporter confirmed the reason for the ejection, citing the fourth official. Ovejero's team had to finish the game short-handed. As of Wednesday, neither the team nor the league has publicly addressed potential further disciplinary action against Ovejero. This isn't the first time such an incident has occurred in Argentine soccer. Goalkeeper Joaquín Pucheta reportedly urinated during a match in Ecuador in 2021 and received a six-match suspension for "obscene acts."
