Super Bowl LIX: Players React to President Trump's Attendance, Focus Remains on the Game

Created: JANUARY 20, 2025

Bay Area rapper Symba shared his Super Bowl LIX prediction on Speak, discussing the matchup and key players. This year's Super Bowl is making history with President Donald Trump's attendance, a first for a sitting president. This news has generated varied reactions from players on both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Several Chiefs players, including Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and even Gracie Hunt, daughter of the team's owner, expressed enthusiasm about the president's presence. However, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts offered a more reserved response, stating that Trump is "welcome to do what he wants." When pressed about whether this added pressure, Hurts simply replied, "No."

This isn't the first time Hurts has interacted with a political figure. In October, he declined an invitation to golf with former President Barack Obama, citing a contractual clause. However, it was later clarified that this was an unofficial agreement with team owner Jeffrey Lurie to avoid becoming "golf-obsessed." Despite declining the invitation, Hurts referred to Obama as an "all-time leader."

Eagles offensive lineman Jordan Mailata echoed Hurts' sentiment, acknowledging Trump's attendance as "cool" but emphasizing the importance of staying focused on the game itself. He questioned how thinking about the president would contribute to winning. In contrast, Mahomes and Kelce expressed excitement, with Kelce describing it as an "honor" to play in front of the president.

Mahomes acknowledged the significance of playing before the president, referring to him as "someone at the top position in our country." Trump, when asked about his Super Bowl prediction, cryptically alluded to a "certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner," seemingly referencing Mahomes. Mahomes responded by saying it was "cool to hear" that Trump respects his game. While Trump initially congratulated only the Chiefs on Truth Social after the conference championships, he later acknowledged the Eagles, praising Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley, and the team's tight end and coaching staff.
