The January 1st attack tragically claimed the lives of 14 individuals and injured 57 others. The victims included 27-year-old former Princeton football player Tiger Bech, 26-year-old Drew Dauphin, 18-year-old Nikyra Dedeaux, 28-year-old single mother Nicole Perez, and several others. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen and Army veteran from Texas, died in a shootout with police following the attack.
A civil negligence lawsuit has been filed against the city's leadership and private security consulting firms by families of the deceased and survivors of the attack. The suit alleges negligence in safety planning for the French Quarter.
