Overnight tornadoes in Mississippi have claimed one life and injured nearly two dozen people, according to officials. State emergency management teams are working with counties to evaluate the destruction left by the storms, which also brought hail and high temperatures to some regions. Jasper County in eastern Mississippi reported the fatality and injuries. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) announced Monday morning that over 49,000 homes in central Mississippi were without power.

Governor Tate Reeves confirmed that the tornadoes hit Jasper and Rankin Counties, the latter bordering the state capital, Jackson. Search and rescue efforts, along with damage assessments, are underway. Drones are being utilized in areas inaccessible by road due to downed power lines. Tens of thousands in Hinds County also remained without power Monday morning following Friday's powerful winds. The state is setting up command centers and shelters for those displaced by the storms, Governor Reeves added.
