New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones was taken into custody on Friday at Boston's Logan International Airport after two loaded firearms and ammunition were discovered in his carry-on luggage during a TSA security check. The 25-year-old athlete was reportedly en route to Los Angeles when the incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. at Terminal B. Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene and Jones was subsequently arrested and booked at the State Police Logan Airport Barracks. He faces several charges related to unlawful possession of firearms, including carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card. He was released on $50,000 bail and is expected to appear in East Boston District Court next week.

The Patriots organization acknowledged the situation in a statement, indicating they are gathering information and will refrain from further comment at this time. This incident marks the tenth instance of firearms being found in carry-on luggage at Logan Airport this year, according to the TSA. Nationwide, the TSA has discovered over 2,900 firearms in carry-on bags in 2023, with over 92% of those being loaded. Regulations stipulate that firearms must be unloaded, secured in a locked, hard-sided case, and transported in checked baggage for air travel. Ammunition and related firearm components are also subject to these checked baggage requirements. Violations can lead to significant civil penalties, potentially exceeding $14,950 per infraction.
