US Olympic Ski Jumper Patrick Gasienica Dies at 24

American ski jumper Patrick Gasienica, who competed in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, passed away on Monday at the age of 24. The news was confirmed in a joint statement released Tuesday by USA Nordic Sport and U.S. Ski & Snowboard. The cause of death has not yet been publicly disclosed.

Gasienica made his Olympic debut in Beijing, competing in the normal hill, large hill, and team events. He began his ski jumping journey at the Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove, Illinois, and went on to represent the United States at several international competitions, including the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in 2016 and 2017, and the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2019.

In Beijing, Gasienica finished 49th on the normal hill and 53rd on the large hill. He also contributed to the team's 10th-place finish.

USA Nordic Sport and U.S. Ski & Snowboard expressed their condolences, stating, "USA Nordic Sport and U.S. Ski & Snowboard's thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and the ski jumping community." According to an obituary, Gasienica is survived by his parents, Jolanta and Wojciech, and his two sisters, Megan and Sabina.
