Behar Urges Democrats to Amplify Their Voices and Challenge Trump's Media Presence

Created: JANUARY 14, 2025

The View co-host Joy Behar recently called on Democratic lawmakers to increase their media presence, urging them to actively engage in public discourse and counter Donald Trump's influence. Behar emphasized the importance of utilizing various platforms, including news shows and talk shows like The View itself, to voice their perspectives and challenge the former president's narrative.

Behar recalled Trump's frequent appearances on television, including interviews on The View and call-ins to programs like Morning Joe. She suggested Democrats adopt a similar strategy, actively seeking opportunities to communicate their message to the public. "They should be ambushing the airwaves," Behar stated, urging Democrats to be more proactive in engaging with the media.

Beyond simply increasing their media presence, Behar also suggested the Democratic party needs a figure who can connect with voters in a similar way to Trump, someone who speaks plainly and authentically, even about mundane topics. She argued that this type of relatability resonates with many voters.

Co-host Sunny Hostin expressed reservations about this approach, while Whoopi Goldberg countered that Democrats are already speaking out, citing examples like Senator Chuck Schumer, Representative Jasmine Crockett, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Goldberg argued that the issue isn't a lack of Democratic voices, but rather a lack of media coverage afforded to them. She suggested that these voices are often perceived as "boring" by media outlets, leading to less exposure for their viewpoints. Goldberg further pointed to the challenges faced by Democrats operating within a slim minority in Congress.

Goldberg challenged Behar to provide specific examples of Democrats who should be more actively engaging with the media. Behar suggested figures like former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Representative Jasmine Crockett as effective communicators for the party. Goldberg reiterated her point that Democrats are indeed making efforts to be heard, but their efforts aren’t always amplified by media outlets. Behar concluded by encouraging Democrats to actively participate in shows like The View to share their perspectives.
