Recent weeks have seen a surge in reports of unusual drone activity in northern New Jersey, prompting investigations by authorities. While officials emphasize there's no immediate public safety threat, the repeated sightings near President-elect Trump's Bedminster golf club and other locations have raised concerns. Videos circulating online depict drones flying over Somerset and Morris counties, including one instance near Black River Middle School in Chester. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) responded by implementing temporary flight restrictions, notably above Trump Bedminster and the Picatinny Arsenal, a key U.S. Army research and development facility. Law enforcement agencies from both Morris and Somerset counties issued a joint statement acknowledging the drone activity and assuring the public that investigations are ongoing in cooperation with the FBI, New Jersey State Police, and Homeland Security. They encouraged residents to report any relevant information. A similar statement was released by Warren County officials, urging the public to document any drone sightings, particularly those near critical infrastructure. The FAA's temporary flight restrictions over Trump Bedminster are expected to last through the week, while the restrictions over Picatinny Arsenal extend until December 26th. The FAA stated their commitment to integrating drones safely into the airspace and emphasized that unauthorized drone operations are subject to investigation, potential certification revocation, and significant fines. These New Jersey sightings coincide with reports of unidentified drones observed over British-American joint bases in the UK, prompting increased security measures.
