Former President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that the nation would face obliteration if it were found to be behind any attempt on his life. These threats, as detailed in an upcoming book by Axios reporter Isaac Isenstadt titled "Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump's Return to Power," have reportedly cast a shadow over Trump, particularly during his 2024 campaign.
Isenstadt's book reveals that law enforcement officials had alerted Trump to the presence of Iranian operatives within the U.S. possessing surface-to-air missiles. Concerns within Trump's circle reportedly escalated to fears of an attack on "Trump Force One" during takeoff or landing.
The book highlights two alleged assassination attempts against Trump during the 2024 campaign. One incident involved a suspect opening fire on a crowd of Trump supporters in Pennsylvania, injuring Trump's ear. Another alleged attempt was thwarted at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. While the Pennsylvania incident has not been linked to Iran, the suspect in the Florida incident reportedly authored a book in 2023 advocating for Trump's assassination by Iran.
Following the Florida incident, security measures around Trump were heightened, including the use of decoy planes and increased vigilance by his security detail. The book recounts instances of heightened anxiety among staffers, who reportedly used dark humor to cope with the perceived threat.

Trump's history with Iran has been marked by tension, particularly following his withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal during his first term. He has since reimposed stringent economic sanctions on the country.
Despite Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's denial of any assassination plots against Trump, the Justice Department reported thwarting an Iranian murder-for-hire plot against the former president in November 2024. Trump has publicly demanded full transparency regarding the assassination attempts, seeking access to all information gathered by the Secret Service and criticizing the Biden administration for allegedly withholding details.
