Former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, once a leading contender for the 2016 Republican nomination, recently shared his perspective on Governor Ron DeSantis's presidential campaign strategy on "America's Newsroom." Walker, who ultimately lost his bid to Donald Trump, sees parallels between his own experience and DeSantis's current challenges. He emphasized the need for a leaner, more impactful approach.
Despite DeSantis outperforming Trump in second-quarter fundraising, Walker pointed out the rapid expenditure of campaign funds. A significant portion of these donations came from high-level contributors who are likely nearing their donation limits. This necessitates a shift in strategy, requiring DeSantis to operate more efficiently while simultaneously making a stronger impression on voters.
Walker stressed that a successful track record as governor isn't enough to compete with a figure like Donald Trump. He urged DeSantis to go beyond simply delivering strong performances and instead ignite enthusiasm among primary voters with bold, innovative ideas. This, he argued, will not only boost poll numbers but also attract smaller-dollar donations crucial for sustaining a long campaign.

The latest GOP presidential nomination polls show Trump with a significant lead, despite being surpassed by DeSantis in recent fundraising. DeSantis accumulated $20.1 million in the first six weeks of his campaign, exceeding Trump's $17.7 million raised over the entire second quarter. However, Trump currently holds 56% support among likely GOP primary voters in a recent Fox News national poll, compared to DeSantis's 22%.
