DOGE-Inspired Government Efficiency Initiatives Gain Momentum Across the United States

Created: JANUARY 27, 2025

Inspired by Elon Musk and federal lawmakers' focus on government efficiency, a wave of DOGE-related legislation and initiatives is sweeping across multiple states. Rep. Aaron Bean, chair of the bipartisan DOGE Caucus, commented on the growing trend, stating, "America has DOGE fever."

Bean emphasized the importance of responsible spending, saying, "As elected officials, we must ensure we are good stewards of taxpayer dollars. This means we must identify, investigate and eliminate wasteful spending."

In New Jersey, GOP Assemblymen Alex Sauickie and Christopher DePhillips introduced a resolution to establish a Delegation on Government Efficiency within the Treasury Department. Sauickie criticized what he sees as unchecked spending, quoting Ronald Reagan's analogy of government to a baby's alimentary canal. DePhillips called for accountability in spending and urged Gov. Phil Murphy to focus on lowering business taxes.

Other states are also embracing the DOGE concept. Kentucky is working on modernizing tax collection and accounting. Texas, under the leadership of Senate President Pro-Tempore Brandon Creighton, sees itself as a model for government efficiency. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced a "Texas DOGE" bill, while the Texas House is considering a DOGE committee to scrutinize spending and AI usage.

In Missouri, Rep. Ben Baker is leading the state's new DOGE Standing Committee. New Hampshire's Gov. Kelly Ayotte's first executive order established a Commission on Government Efficiency. North Carolina's House Speaker Destin Hall unveiled a Select Committee on Government Efficiency, with Reps. Keith Kidwell and John Torbett at the helm.

Despite the growing momentum, some remain skeptical. Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-RI) has criticized some DOGE actions at the federal level as "completely illegal."
