Rep. Tlaib Participates in Strategy Call with Climate Activist Groups, Including One Under FBI Investigation

Created: JANUARY 25, 2025

Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib recently took part in a strategy meeting with several environmental activist organizations, one of which is currently the subject of an FBI investigation. The virtual meeting, held via Zoom, included representatives from Declare Emergency, Climate Defiance, and the Climate Emergency Fund. These groups are known for their aggressive tactics in advocating for urgent climate action.

The meeting's objective was to mobilize climate activists and discuss strategies for addressing what the groups describe as a rapidly accelerating climate crisis. A spokesperson for the Climate Emergency Fund confirmed Tlaib's presence at the meeting but emphasized that she has no formal affiliation with any of the participating organizations. They stated that her participation stemmed from her concern about the changing climate and her belief in the importance of advocating for action.

The FBI's Art Crime Team is currently investigating Declare Emergency following an incident at the National Gallery of Art where two of its members vandalized the protective case surrounding Degas's "Little Dancer Aged Fourteen" sculpture. The incident resulted in significant damage and the temporary removal of the artwork. While the FBI confirmed the ongoing investigation into Declare Emergency, they declined to comment on Tlaib's involvement in the Zoom call.
